USB 3.0 was added to the 2013 Mac Pro. For the rest of us, who are still rocking the older gear, adding a dedicated USB 3.0 card isn’t something Apple want to However, other Inateck USB 3.0 cards are also available in the UK, and although the cards over here do require an external power supply, they. When you look at the WiFi slot a little I’m trying to have my MacPro 3,1 connect to my apple tv would this card installation do that??
Mercury Elite Pro Dual features both high-speed USB 3.1 Gen 1 & eSATA ports to offer the connectivity and versatility to work with your current equipment at extreme speeds. A second-generation, free-flowing brushed-aluminum chassis with high-performance fan delivers cool, quiet operation. In addition, drive-activity LEDs give you an instant snapshot of the status of your RAID, and intelligent power management conserves energy and reduces wear by automatically spinning down the drives when inactive. Booting in RAID 0, RAID 1, and SPAN mode are supported via both eSATA and USB.
When connected via USB, the following limitations apply when booting in Independent mode: only the disk connected to Port 1 is bootable when both drives are installed. If only one drive is installed, the disk will boot regardless of which port it is connected to. Please check the Assembly Manual & User Guide for more details.
When connected via eSATA, booting in Independent mode is not supported. Not compatible with the following Seagate drive: Seagate ST8000NM0055, part number 1RM112-102, AND firmware version PN02.
Please note that drives with the same model number but different firmware DO work correctly. It is exactly what I wanted and better yet expected. This is why I buy from OWC. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Customer Videos. Verified Buyer Reviewer: JakeRich Location: Winchester, VA Age: Over 65 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 5/5 Great Raid enclosure April 8, 2018 I was looking for an enclosure for two identical bare drives and saw this one.
I ordered it and it came in a few days. Popped in the empty drives, set it for RAID1, powered it on and in a few seconds it was ready to go. Attached to my MBP via USB3 and put it in service.
It's been brilliant in operations, with a simple set of lights on the front to tell you about the stats of the drives. The LEDs are a bit bright, so I've turned the drive to one side to avoid having them directly in my eyes. The cooling fan is also audible above the quiet of my office, but I've put an old mouse pad under the feet and the noise is less noticeable. Other reviews have referred to the noise, but it isn't intolerable, just louder than anything else in the setup. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos. March 21, 2018 I chose this enclosure to house a pair of drives I wanted to mount independently, and it will do that, however I could easily chosen one of three RAID options via the switch on the back. The quality of the machined aluminum enclosure is a rarity in these days of plastic. I have it hooked up to a USB 3.0 PCI card on my MacPro, but will probably hook it up to eSata if a port frees up. Very pleased.

Fan is a little noisier than I anticipated but that may only be a result of using it in a quiet office on a glass desk. High quality packaging and fast shipping as one would expect from OWC. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.

I've had questions and concerns that over the years they have been responsive to and very helpful with. My latest purchase, this 6TB external drive has worked like a charm out of the box.
It's speed is eye opening. I'd buy it again if I needed more storage. Great place to buy with great support. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from.

The only thing I'd like to see is the instructions for changing the RAID setting printed on the enclosure somewhere as I'll never remember them and have to look it up on the website or save the instruction pamphlet. It's a sequence of a mode selector, power and a reset button-and I've already forgotten it. Most users will probably set it once and never need to change it, so maybe it's just me.

I purchased it with no drives. Adding the drives was a little annoying because the rubber feet included by the screw-holes on the case wanted to slide around with pressure, so it took some finagling to get them in. Once they were in, though, reassembly was a snap and had no further issues.
Only negative I can see is the lack of management software - there's no way to query individual drive SMART status, for example, even with an included tool or open source software like smartctl. The Fan is wonderfully quiet. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.
The Sonnet Allegro card can add two 15W powered USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports to your Mac. What's great about these cards is that unlike most PCIe USB cards, they don't require any additional power, they just work off the power supplied via the PCIe slot. In this guide we go through installing the card and running some performance tests. WHERE TO BUY Sonnet 2xUSB-C: Sonnet 4xUSB 3.0: Mac Pro: PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. OVERALL 3/5 PROS + It works on Mac and Bootcamp Windows + Easy setup and unlike other cards requires no extra power connection CONS - Only 2 ports, won't work well with usb hubs, bit pricey - Should be screwed into PCI slot rather than used with MAC Pro PCI bracket as it's easily shifted when inserting and removing cables - Probably should of got a 4 port USB-A 3.0 hub FILMING TOOLS Links to products often include an affiliate tracking code which allow us to earn fees on purchases you make through them.
